Goma Goma is the tourist center for eastern Zaire and the administrative center for Virunga National Park and Ny-iragongo and Nyamulagira Volcanoes. Fortunately tourism has done little to change this typical African town. Goma is situated on the northern shores of Lake Kivu, one of the most beautiful lakes in Africa, with Mt. Nyiragongo (volcano) forming a draŽmatic backdrop to the north. Three boats per week depart Goma for Bukavu across Lake Kivu. Le Nyira is a good restaurant in town. Goma has an international airport. Air charters are available.

Kahuzi-Biega National Park

Kahuzi-Biega National Park This 2300-Square-Mile (5960 Km2) Mountain Sanctuary Located 17 Miles Northwest Of Bukavu, Is Dedicated To PreservŽing The Eastern Lowland Gorilla (Gorillagorillagraueri). SearchŽing For These Magnificent, Rare And Endangered Animals Is Recommended Only For Travelers In Fairly Good Physical CondiŽtion. The Four Groups Of Habituated Gorillas Have Been Named Maheshe, Mushamuka, Naninja And Mubalala. The Search For These Gorillas Usually Takes An Hour Or Two Of Hiking To Altitudes From 7000 To 8200 Feet (2135-2500 M) Through Dense Upland Jungle And Bamboo Forests. However, It Occasionally Takes Three Or Four Hours To Locate The Gorillas. The Park Also Includes Swamp,
